The Sushumna nadis (neutral, balanced) passes through the center of the spine, known as the most compassionate pranic energy channel. It runs along the spine going through all the major chakras allowing pranic energy to flow.

When Kundalini is activated, it flows upward from the base of the spine through a central channel, the Sushumna nadi, piercing each of the six lower chakras before reaching the crown chakra (sahasrara) at the very top of the skull. Two other major channels, ida and pingala spiral around the sushumna like the twin snakes of the caduceus.
